Embora tenha sido integrada no evento Porto Capital Europeia da Cultura em 2001, a sua constru\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00f3 acabou conclu\u00edda em 2005. Teve um custo aproximado de 100 milh\u00f5es de euros.
